How Many Meals a Day Should You Have?

A lot of healthy “gurus” are telling us that we should be eating 5 to 6 meals a day. If you are one of those that follow this plan of weight loss, you may actually be doing more harm than good. Studies are showing that 3 square meals are all that’s needed for losing weight.

One reason for 5 or 6 meals a day being so bad, is that people missinterprate what constitutes as a meal. If you are eating more than 3 meals, then the meals you eat should be smaller. Literally snack sized meals. Many people are actually consuming more calories than they should be by eating more than 3 meals because they overdo it with their food portions.

Another problem is that trying to eat 5 to 6 meals a day is troublesome in a busy lifestyle. It’s hard to get all those meals eaten every 2 to 3 hours. And if you skip one, you may have blown your diet, as you may eat far too much at the next meal.

But if you eat 3 nutritious meals a day (check out these paleo recipes for healthy delicious foods), you can still lose weight. Have a big breakfast in the morning, a good size lunch in the afternoon, and a lighter dinner in the evening. If you need to munch on something in between meals, go for some fruit of raw vegies, like carrots or celery.

Studies have proven that it isn’t really when you eat, it’s still all about calories. Limit your calorie intake and burn some calories by doing exercise, and you are sure to lose weight.
